Birthday bake

As its Luke’s dads birthday on Friday we decided to take a visit to see his family which also gives them a chance to see Francis who is growing too quickly at the moment!
We are having family gathering in the evening with a BBQ so I decided a birthday celebration is not quite the same with out a cake.
I went for the safe option knowing his dad likes coffee and walnut cake and I am pleased I chose to do so as it turned out looking rather nice compared to my last attempt.

This is the recipe my mum tends to use for most of her sponges and it always seems to turn out well which is why I have stuck with it.
For the icing I didn’t use measurements I just went by taste (lazy chef) I creamed together butter icing sugar with a coffee paste, if I had double cream I would have added that but fortunately for everyone’s waist line I didn’t have any.
I finally added walnuts for decoration.

I love birthdays.

    1. It is kind of new I haven’t worn it yet apart from around the house but I wasn’t sure about it as I have a dressing gown rather similar to this hehe I might just put a broach in the fold at the front to make it a little less night wear. We should have our hair done before graduation as a treat 🙂 xxx

      1. I really like it! I think with your pretty daisy headband it will look lovely, like a little garden fairy. A broach is a good idea 🙂 I would love to get my hair done but it is still in desperate need of a cut! I might try and squeeze one in somehow but don’t think I’ll be able to afford getting it styled too 😦
